Solar collectors are often used to generate energy. But what is a solar exactly? And what is the cost of a solar collector ?

What is a solar collector?

A solar collector has in appearance much like solar panels, but its operation is different. They should therefore not be confused. Solar panels generate electricity by means of solar energy in order to provide electronic devices powered.

A solar water heater, solar collector where a part of it, is a boiler that heats by means of solar energy water. A solar collector is therefore an essential component of a solar water heater. This is in fact located in a place where a lot of sunshine (for example, the roof of your house). By means of an ingenious system of tubes is a liquid heated. This liquid is transported to the storage tank of a solar water heater. As the water is heated and when the need is reheated.

Solar costs and expected revenue

Because solar collectors are such a vital part of solar water heaters, they are almost always sold in combination with other components of a solar water heater. The cost of solar collectors is dependent on the number of solar collectors, and the size of the boiler. It is also important to always ask for multiple quotes from providers of solar water heaters and collectors, because the prices themselves may differ significantly. I will give some examples of average prices.

So you pay for one collector and a tank of 100 liters approximately € 2,200. It saves you about 100 cubic meters of natural gas annually. That is equivalent to approximately € 65 in annual savings. Would you two collectors? It is also possible. You pay about € 3,000 for a boiler also 100 liters. Thereby saving 135 cubic meters of natural gas and € 85 euros.

For a small household of two people is a boiler of 100 liters is sufficient. However, if you have more people at home? Then a heater of a larger size not hurt.

This allows you to choose two collectors and a boiler of 200 liters for a sum of € 3,500. This will save approximately € 120 per year and 185 cubic meters of natural gas. Are you having a big family? Then you can choose to lock for three panels that provide energy for a solar water heater of 300 liters. This would choose average € 5,000. This will save annually around 285 cubic meters of natural gas and approximately € 185 euros.

You should keep in mind that these prices include installation costs. There is no account maintenance costs, but these will not be as high in solar collectors. Because they do not require special maintenance. You need to have them checked annually for contamination.

The cost is not very high and collectors are certainly a good investment in your home. Not only because it saves them money every year, but also because your home will receive a higher energy and thereby becomes more valuable. So you deserve the investment actually been directly back without actually saving energy.
