Increase Lifespan of average solar panel in Future

The average solar panel lifespan is fuel for a lively debate about solar panels. A lot of businesses are saying that solar panels are the future and others are saying that new technologies will rise that will surpass solar panels in a few years. The main reason businesses are hesitant about solar panels is because of the fact that the lifespan of solar panels are not long enough to warrant the big investment that businesses have to make when they want to purchase solar panels. However the truth could not be any more different.

Solar panels have the future. During a conference about energy in Abu Dhabi this year the minister of energy of The United Arab Emirates said that solar panels were becoming nearly as cheap as fossil fuels are. This is a reason to cheer and celebrate because environment friendly energy options are finally becoming as cheap as the source of a lot of heated debates. Fossil fuels are a known risk to the climate and solar panels seem to finally be giving the option to live a life that isn’t completely revolving around fossil fuels. The fact that houses can finally be self-sustainable without fossil fuels in a cheap way is a great cause for celebration.

We have had a big issue with a lot of scammers on the solar panel market in Belgium and this is sadly the reason that a lot of consumers are still hesitant when it comes to installing solar panels. However ILUMEN has managed to get a lot more houses in Belgium environmental friendly. This alone was great however we want more. We have read about the technological development in the solar panel industry and we are excited to see the average solar panel lifespan increase.

Because of the big competition on the market of solar panels there has been a lot of innovation lately. The technology behind the solar panels has been developing at a rapid pace and this made it possible to make solar panels at a more efficient pace and therefore the prices are dropping. This makes solar panels more accessible to a lot of consumers and this is good for both the industry as well as the consumers. Considering that the solar panel market was nearly collapsing in Belgium the upward trend is a great trend.

The typical solar panel lifespan is around 30 years at the moment. This lifespan is pretty short compared to the technical lifespan however the economical aspect is making the lifespan of solar panels quite short. There have been reports of solar panels still working after 60 years; however this is not economical for a lot of consumers. Because of the decline in energy being produced by solar panels after 10 years (95% of the starting amount) and 25 years (85% of the starting amount) it is unknown how effective the solar panels were after 60 years. Keeping in mind that the innovations in the solar panel market are following each other in a rapid pace is making the future for the solar panel market very bright.

The average decrease of PV in the solar panels over the years can be as little as 0.7% per year. This number is quite low considering the fact that tests were done on solar panels that were installed in the year 1997. These numbers are quite unreliable however because there were more solar panels installed between 2006 and 2010 then before 2006. This means that most solar panels that are installed are only 9 years to 5 years old. This is very young when you keep in mind that the expected lifespan of these solar panels is 25 years. It will take another 15 to 20 year before reliable data can be presented to proof that solar panels are able to be used economically for more than 25 years.

If you would like to receive more information about solar panels and how to best install them or keep them in tip-top shape you can always call us or send us a message. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or remarks. We from ILUMEN love solar panels and we believe in a green and energy efficient future and would love to create one together with you.
